Job Description: Field Test Engineer

 

Responsible for conducting commissioning and maintenance testing on High Voltage and Extra High Voltage AC and DC underground Cable systems, Rotating Machines, Gas Insulated Switchgear, in compliance with Industry and International testing Standards.  Determines and specifies the required high voltage testing equipment and feed power to perform the necessary high voltage testing on long land and subsea class cable systems.

 

Commissioning and Maintenance testing on highly specialised cables systems rated up to 400kV in the UK.

 

Responsible for performing advanced diagnostic Partial Discharge measurements during high voltage testing using proprietary techniques.

 

Responsible for the execution of field testing and diagnosis on offshore array and inter-array cable system using specialized offshore resonance test system.

 

Responsible for execution of field testing and diagnosis of HVDC cable systems.

 

Become a working and contributing member of technical standards committees (Cigre, IEC) in the development and implementation of high voltage testing techniques and diagnosis on High Voltage and Extra High Voltage AC and DC underground Cable systems, Rotating Machines, and Gas Insulated Switchgear.

 

Technical analysis of the Partial Discharge Data for OFFLINE commissioning and maintenance testing.

 

Technical analysis of the Partial Discharge Data for ONLINE diagnosis techniques via the use of 3PARD and 3FREQ analysis tools.

 

 

Further Duties Include:

 

  • Advanced technical seminars including onsite client-based training for High Voltage testing methodology and partial discharge diagnosis.
  • Compile technical test reports including recommendations based on the analysed test data.
  • Train Junior Staff for advanced Partial Discharge diagnosis on the various service lines.
  • Develop technical quotations
  • Provide technical support for High voltage testing and PD diagnosis

 

 

Key qualifications/competencies

  • BSc in Electrical Engineering or higher qualification.
  • At least 5 years proven and high-level technical knowledge and experience in High Voltage testing and Partial Discharge diagnosis.
  • Experience with 3PARD and 3FREQ analysis tools.
  • Experience with Gas Insulated Switchgear
