General Overview
This role supports projects within the Lines Asset Management – Field Services Service Line, with a primary focus on providing both field and office support for overhead conductor inspections, conductor and tower vibration monitoring, and structure and hardware condition assessments. The individual will work as part of a team in the field environments to perform testing and inspection services related to these activities, ensuring high-quality and safety-focused execution aligned with project requirements. As the service line continues to grow, additional field services will be introduced.
General Accountabilities
- Carry out standard and non-standard investigations and technical studies for electric utilities that may require knowledge in various disciplines including mechanical, electrical, metallurgical, chemical, non-destructive evaluation etc.
- Execute field testing on overhead phase conductors, structures and accessory hardware.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures. Participate in pre-job meetings. Assure timely completion and review of JSAs with involved parties.
- Act as a technical resource on projects of varying complexity to achieve the defined objectives of scope, quality, time and cost.
- Assist in the co-ordination of multiple projects simultaneously.
- Support the administration of contracts, including estimates of costs, schedule, and resources required.
- Assist in preparing high quality work procedure, routine and non-routine technical reports with recommendations based on results achieved.
- Ensure Kinectrics provides a leading-edge service to the industry. Participate in product/service development projects. Support any potential technology integration and testing offering to new market locations.
- Trouble-shoot, service, calibrate or supervise the repair or installation of equipment, processes or products
- Identify opportunities for improvement in the product development process and assist in the preparation, revision and maintenance of internal procedures to streamline the operations.
- Directly respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations and solve problems and/or acquire new or repeat business.
- Lead smaller projects and may direct the work of others.
- Occasionally train and co-ordinate the work of others including safety.
- Work at customer sites throughout the EU and UK to initiate new services and strategic partners. Field duty and travel is part of this position. 50% to 70% travel is common for the role.
- Carry out customers’ work in accordance to written or verbal procedures.
- Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria
- Mechanical, or Electro-Mechanical Technician/Technologist diploma (or equivalent). Completion of three-year community college or undergraduate degree in engineering technology program.
- Minimum 2-5 years of related test laboratory experience or equivalent advanced education
- Understanding of transmission line components is required.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
- Strong analytical mindset with a willingness to self-learn or learn under supervision.
- Customer-focused with solid organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Proven experience analyzing and resolving complex technical issues across multiple disciplines.
- Hands-on experience with common hand and power tools.
- Working knowledge of mechanical/electrical theory and relevant testing standards.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Flexibility with schedule and travel requirements due to fluidity of projects. Must be able to travel within EU and to the UK with no restrictions.
- Possession of a valid driver's license enabling independent operation of motor vehicles.
- Experience working under QA programs (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively with technical teams.
- Ability to manage time and budget, multi-task and understand priorities and communicate deviation or conflicts to the Service Line Lead.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement practices and workplace organization.
- German and English language proficiency is required.
- French language proficiency is an asset.
- Ability to act as a spokesperson for Kinectrics. Demonstrated strong customer service orientation, dealt with clients alone on numerous occasions. Built relationships with key contractors and suppliers.
