Position:                             Senior Engineer / Sr. Analyst (Electrical, Instrumentation and Control)

Hours per week:                40 (This is a shift worker position. Shift workers may be assigned 8-10-12 hour shifts and be required to workday, afternoon and/or night shifts. Rotating shifts, overtime, weekend and field work may be required).

As part of our expanding the Site Engineering and Design team, successful candidates will work on engineering projects that directly support Bruce Power’s Major Component Replacement (MCR) program, ongoing refurbishment work, and Rapid Response Engineering (Engineering Permits) that address emergent plant needs.

 

 

 

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

To deliver Electrical, Instrumentation & Control engineering expertise to power generation utilities and other customers. The specific accountabilities of the position are as follows:

 

  • Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process.
  • Perform condition assessments / prepare specifications, design changes, drawing markups for electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switch gears, electric motors, motor control centers, generators and other power plant equipment.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the Engineering team.
  • Provide a high level of expertise in one or more specific areas related to electrical/I&C engineering, e.g., control instrumentation assessment/design/specification of equipment and components, electrical power generation and distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of control system design, analysis and equipment including control computers, PID controllers, Digital Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), advanced control theory etc.
  • Perform electrical analysis, equipment protection, cable and electrical equipment selection.
  • Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements.
  • Provide field support to multi-disciplined plant design modifications, including provision of field engineering.
  • Provide technical guidance/direction on projects and act as design team lead where appropriate. 
  • Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight (for senior-level roles).
  • Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Stay current with developments within their field of expertise.
  • Assist with proposals, client presentations, and technical reports.
  • Assist / support with Bruce Power ECC process and EAMS Maximo
  • Regular travel / visits to client sites in Tiverton are required for walkdowns. Travel to other GTA locations may be required occasionally. 
  • Other duties as required.

 

What You Need to Succeed

 

  • A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Electrical / I&C Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
  • 8+ years relevant experience is considered necessary.
  • A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status, with a passion for engineering.
  • Good knowledge of CANDU design and/or PWRs, PHWRs, and BWRs
  • Experience with projects related to heavy industry, nuclear refurbishment is preferred
  • In depth knowledge and experience of use of appropriate codes and standards (e.g. N299 and CSA N286), as applied to nuclear plant and conventional plants.
  • Experience in control system theory, analysis and design is required
  • Experience in project management and interfacing with and coordinating activities of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Knowledge and experience working with nuclear power plant systems & processes (Bruce Power, OPG, NB Power or other), e.g. Engineering Change Control is an asset.
  • Good time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of station customers.
  • Good understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation.
  • Experience in leading technical projects to successful conclusion.
  • Assist in development of proposals for clients
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead complex and/or multi-discipline projects.
  • Innovative, enthusiastic and ready to be part of our dynamic team.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
