Engineering Supervisor, Civil/Structural
About the Job
The Civil/Structural Supervisor will play a key leadership role within the Civil/Structural Engineering Team, providing technical direction and oversight for engineering and design work supporting nuclear power generation facilities and related infrastructure. This position will guide a team of engineers and designers to ensure project quality, technical excellence, and timely delivery of complex structural and civil design projects in accordance with client and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor a group of civil/structural engineers and designers at various levels of experience.
- Coordinate, assign, and monitor project work to ensure scope, schedule, and quality objectives are achieved.
Evaluate staff performance and recommend professional development or training opportunities. - Define project scope, establish engineering methodologies, and allocate staff and resources accordingly.
- Provide technical leadership and review of complex design calculations, drawings, and deliverables.
- Engage with clients to identify design inputs, clarify scope, and support project planning and execution.
- Advise on the development and application of new engineering methods, materials, and design standards.
- Support business development efforts by assisting in proposal preparation and discussing technical scope with clients.
- Ensure work complies with applicable codes, standards, and quality management requirements (e.g., ACI, AISC, ASME, CSA).
- Exercise sound engineering judgment in solving complex technical challenges with practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and with client representatives.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in structural or civil design and analysis, preferably within the commercial nuclear or power generation industry.
- Prior experience in a consulting engineering environment is highly desirable.
In-depth knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (AISC, ACI, ASCE, etc.). - Professional Engineer (P.E.) license strongly preferred.
- Strong technical background in structural design software and analysis tools (e.g., STAAD, GT STRUDL, MathCAD, AutoCAD).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical staff.
- Proven capacity for sound decision-making and business judgment in technical and project matters.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and related engineering software.
- Occasional to moderate travel may be required.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States.
