As Asset Management Principal Engineer for Kinectrics, you will bring your technical knowledge, understanding of the utilities industry and the regulatory environment in Canada and the U.S, along with business development expertise to market Kinectrics services for the Asset Management line of business (this includes Transmission, Distribution, Generation and Mass Transit).

This unique opportunity requires someone who has the proven ability to be both a technical advisor and the client-facing representative for winning work with new clients and during the project execution phase. You will:

  • Plan and develop proposals including strategy, negotiation and administration of contracts, cost estimates, scheduling and resource management. 
  • Supervise and co-ordinate staff who participate in multidisciplinary projects.
  • Actively market/sell the technology/services of the business to ensure products remains viable and competitive
  • Participate in workshops and conferences and present high-quality articles for presentation and publication.
  • Maintain expertise in the field of asset management and life cycle planning by participation on national and international organizations, such as IEEE, CIGRE, EUCI, CEATI.

  • Must have up to date knowledge and experience in project management methodologies and tools.
  • Proven computer skills with a variety of software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Power Engineering plus further concentrated experience spanning Asset Management techniques such as risk assessment, health indices, equipment health assessment, economical analysis, capital allocation, performance management and the balance between risk and return.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in the role of “consultant engineer” with a demonstrated ability to secure work.  
  • Must have experience in managing asset management projects up to $30M
  • Possess a Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA) designation
  • Working knowledge of the ISO55000 standard and requirements
  • Strong knowledge in the construction and failure mechanisms of T&D electrical assets such as transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, arresters, switches, automation, insulated power cables, overhead line conductors and insulators.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and condition assessment methodologies of T&D electrical assets, i.e. electrical, mechanical, chemical, and material tests, as well as applicable acceptance criteria, guides, and standards.
  • Broad background knowledge of transmission and distribution power systems is preferred.  Preference will be given to a post-graduate qualification and with a utility work background.
  • Proven ability to analyze large quantities of asset data and information, to generate statistics, determine asset condition, associated risks, and recommend actions.
  • Familiarity with data management and analysis tools used by asset owners, as well as existing and emerging asset management platforms.
  • Must have detailed knowledge and demonstrated capabilities in international approaches to utility Asset Management and a demonstrated track record in completing asset management projects within the power sector. 
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of requirements from regulatory bodies, as well as guidelines and standards related to Asset Management and their applicability to T&D asset owners.
  • A minimum period of 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • Requires travel.
