Position Overview

As a Power System Studies Engineer, you will lead and contribute to projects in the Distribution & Asset Management Department, focusing on power system studies, DER integration, and grid reliability. Your role will involve managing projects, developing technical solutions, and engaging with clients across Canada and the United States to drive innovation and growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Quote, plan, and execute projects, including contract negotiation, cost estimation, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Technical Expertise: Conduct power system studies, including short circuit analysis, load flow, transient stability, power quality, and arc flash studies.
  • Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying opportunities for Kinectrics’ engineering teams to contribute value.
  • Business Development support: Support the sales team including client engagement initiatives to promote power studies capabilities, identify possible opportunities and lead proposals.
  • Collaboration: Work with national and international bodies to influence reliability, safety, and standards development.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay at the forefront of T&D asset management, transient studies, and grid interconnection challenges.
  • Presentation: Represent Kinectrics at conferences, workshops, and in technical publications.
  • Travel: Be prepared to travel within Canada, the U.S., and beyond to deliver projects.

Qualifications & Competencies

Essential Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 years (10 years preferred) in a client-facing engineering role in Canada or the United States.
  • Expertise in connection impact studies, IEEE 1547.1 standards, and Distributed Energy Resources (DER).
  • Advanced knowledge of power system analysis tools (PSCAD, CYME, ETAP, PSS/E preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, and timelines independently or collaboratively.
  • Experience with distribution systems design and planning.
  • Strong sales and business development acumen with a focus on Canadian and U.S. power utilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.

Education & Certifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Ph.D. preferred) with a focus on Power Systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of distribution standards, components, and advanced power systems engineering practices.

Technological Proficiency:

  • Microsoft Office Suite, PSCAD, CYME, ETAP, and other relevant tools.
