Position:                               Senior Engineer/Analyst

Location:                              St. John, New Brunswick

 

Kinectrics has a growing portfolio of services supporting operating nuclear power plants and the development and deployment of new nuclear power plants in Canada and around the world. This includes CANDU reactors, Pressurized Water Reactors, Boiling Water Reactors as well as Small Modular Reactors and Advanced Reactors of all technology types.

 

As a senior technical staff member within our Licensing & New Technology directorate, your primary focus will be helping external and internal customers ensure that both current operating facilities and new nuclear power plants have a robust safety, design and licensing basis and that design and operations can be demonstrated to be in compliance with the bases.

 

General Accountabilities

 

Provide technical consultancy services to clients in the nuclear sector in the areas of Nuclear Siting, Environmental Assessments/Impact Assessments, Design Assist Analysis, Deterministic Safety Analysis, Probabilistic Safety Analysis, Operational Nuclear Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Nuclear Security, Regulatory Affairs and other related disciplines.

 

  • Outline, assign and supervise complex work.
  • Propose, pursue, execute and lead work acquired, including advanced and complex technical investigations in one or more designated specialties.
  • Lead and support the development of proposals.
  • Lead, mentor, coach and train less experienced staff.
  • Prepare technical reports suitable for submission to clients and to nuclear regulators (for example, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission) and support the client in addressing questions from the regulatory bodies.
  • Review project deliverables and take responsibility for the quality and technical integration of work being overseen.
  • Provide technical leadership and key capabilities in the applicable area.

 

Educational & Technical Competencies

 

Education: Requires advanced knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices associated with science and engineering disciplines normally acquired in a 4-year undergraduate university education. Additional technical education including graduate degrees, project management, and/or business/financial courses are considered to be an asset.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience at an advanced level in several or more of the following:
    • Safety analysis methods
    • Design support analysis
    • Development of integrated safety cases
    • Implementation of design changes and/or new designs from a safety and licensing perspective
    • Regulatory affairs and licensing
    • Safe operating envelope
    • Reactor safety / Operational support
    • Safety design methods such as code classification and/or establishment of safety design criteria
    • Performing design support and/or safety analysis in the areas of Computational Fluid Dynamics, Radiation Shielding and/or Dose calculations
    • Environmental assessment/impact assessment
    • Siting of nuclear facilities including power reactors, fuel facilities, or other licensed facilities
  • Must be motivated by working with engineering professionals committed to producing timely and high-quality technical work.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize assigned work and to coordinate multiple activities efficiently.
  • Flexible in terms of willingness to accept evolving assignments as current projects end and new projects begin.
  • Candidates are expected to have or pursue attainment of the P.Eng. designation, if eligible.

Professional Experience:

 

A minimum of 6-8 years relevant technical experience in nuclear safety analysis/assessments, nuclear licensing, reactor safety, and related technical areas acting to provide technical guidance, project management guidance and/or acting as a task leader.

 

Occasional travel to other Kinectrics’ locations, client sites, and key industry events will be required.
