Position:                               Engineer/Scientist

General Accountabilities

Provide technical consultancy services to clients in the nuclear sector in the areas of Nuclear Siting, Environmental Assessments/Impact Assessments, Design Assist Analysis, Deterministic Safety Analysis, Probabilistic Safety Analysis, Operational Nuclear Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Nuclear Security, Regulatory Affairs and other related disciplines.

 

  • Propose, plan, lead and/or conduct projects
  • Provide technical leadership and key capabilities in the applicable area
  • Provide technical mentoring to junior staff
  • Carry out work with a view to ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Outline, assign and oversee the tasks of others on the team
  • Support the development of proposals
  • Prepare technical reports suitable for submission to clients and to nuclear regulators (for example, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission).
  • This role will also involve building and maintaining relationships with new and existing customers in western Canada. Occasional travel to other Kinectrics’ locations, client sites, and key industry events will be required.

 

Selection Criteria

  • Requires advanced knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices associated with science and engineering disciplines normally acquired in a 4-year university education. Additional project management and/or business/financial courses are considered to be an asset.
  • Technical experience in advanced reactors, fusion machines, environmental/impact assessments, nuclear siting or clean energy technologies – 5 years (+/-).
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Effective project management skills are an asset
  • Business development experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following:
    • Advanced Reactors
      • Advanced reactor fuels expertise, including TRISO, molten salt fuels, molten metal fuels, thorium fuel cycles
      • Reprocessing facility expertise, including PUREX-type processes and pyro-processing
      • Graphite expertise
      • Gas reactor safety analysis expertise
    • Fusion machines
    • Environmental assessment/impact assessment
    • Nuclear siting
    • Clean energy technologies:
      • Hydrogen technologies
      • Synthetic fuels
  • Must be motivated by working with engineering professionals committed to producing timely and

               high-quality technical work.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize assigned work and to coordinate multiple activities

               efficiently.

  • Flexible in terms of willingness to accept evolving assignments as current projects end and new

               projects begin.

  • Candidates are expected to have or pursue attainment of the P.Eng. designation, if eligible.
