Program Description

The Kinectrics Graduate Trainee Development Program provides graduates with the knowledge, tools and experience necessary for success. Created for newly graduated students, the program allows Graduate Trainees (GTs) to work alongside experts in the field, acquire technical experience in a professional atmosphere, and develop the skills essential for career growth in the company through.

The program is designed to run for approximately 24 months or the period of time it takes to complete four rotations approx. 6 - 12 months in length with some flexibility based on individual needs and the departments ongoing projects. The roles and responsibilities will vary with each rotation to provide a greater perspective of the overall work performed at Kinectrics.

Upon successful completion of the program, trainees will be placed in a position in a Kinectrics department. Placement will be made based on consideration of recommendations by the trainee’s supervisors, the Program Coordinator, the trainee’s strengths and preferences, and Kinectrics business needs.

 

General Accountabilities

  • Provide technical and analytical support for multiple projects of varying complexity to ensure work is completed on schedule and on budget to required quality standards.
  • Act as a resource in contributing to the preparation of proposals and supporting technical project management related to transmission & distribution and nuclear power generation. Coordinate between multiple projects to support deliverables.
  • Work independently and as a part of engineering and technical teams to contribute to technical procedure writing (including log sheets, QA program and job safety analysis), data analysis, report preparations and engineering modelling/design.
  •  Provide support to Project Leaders to interact with clients, write progress reports and complete quality assurance documents.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 4-year university education in engineering. Applicants with post graduate degrees are strongly encouraged to apply (MEng or equivalent post graduate degree).
  • Previous experience in a related field (including either co-op or full-time employment in the utilities, manufacturing, or nuclear industry) an asset but not required (a maximum of 1 year of full-time industry experience accepted).
  • Sound fundamental knowledge of engineering and science principles is expected.
  • Candidates with advanced knowledge in various disciplines, such as engineering material properties, stress analyses, fracture mechanics, electrical, mechanical, or civil design engineering, power delivery systems, risk assessment and physics are highly desirable.
  • Additional experience or exposure to engineering project management or laboratory facilities is an asset
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 considered an asset.
  • Willingness to work at customer sites across Ontario. Some potential to work across North America and worldwide for extended period of time for interested applicants.
  • Excellent problem-solving, time management, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Experience writing technical reports, memos, plans, procedures and specifications an asset.
  • Flexibility to work in a wide array of technical topics related to transmission and distribution and nuclear engineering.
  • Ability to utilize computer software programs for data management, such as Microsoft Excel. Other engineering/science software exposure an asset.
  • Coding experience is an asset but not required.
  • A valid G license an asset for travelling to Kinectrics sites on an as needed basis.
