Accountabilities: How you will make an impact
- Support and lead BRIMS technical Outage and Maintenance Engineering tasks or any other projects being performed at the ONS facility.
- Perform all work in accordance with and in compliance with Kinectrics policies, procedures and standards and in a safe manner.
- Have an understanding and ability to apply mechanical engineering fundamentals to design and build of equipment and skid-based process systems, and tooling systems.
- Review, interpret or prepare process and electrical or I&C design drawings.
- Prepare design packages which may include but not limited to, fabrication drawings, P&ID, design calculations (stress analysis, load calculations, etc.), general arrangement diagrams, detailed fabrication drawings, technical specifications (equipment, line, valves, load, instrumentation), Bill of Materials, FMEA etc.
- Perform equipment sizing and selection which may include but not limited to pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, recombiners, distillation columns, dryers, humidifiers etc.
- Identify equipment suppliers and work with them to ensure conformance with the specification. Working with equipment suppliers can include activities such as site visits to review system compliance to fabrication drawings, review and acceptance of supplier prepared fabrication drawings, review and acceptance of assembly procedures including leak testing, etc.
- Able to work under the direction of Technical Team Lead and Subject Matter Experts to develop conceptual designs and turn them into detailed design packages
- Working knowledge of drafting software (i.e AutoCAD P&ID, SolidWorks, etc.) is considered essential
- Prepare test procedures for functional testing, and factory acceptance testing to a high degree of accuracy and meeting the requirements of Kinectrics or Clients quality program.
- Work independently and as part of engineering teams to contribute and prepare technical evaluations, technical procedures, technical test plans, data analysis, report preparation and report reviews.
- Liaise with customers, staff, contractors, consultants, and vendors as appropriate.
- Assist in procurement engineering activities such as preparing procurement plans, incoming inspections, scope of work, reviewing terms and identifying appropriate risks.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in the technical processes and support change derived from lessons learned.
- Good understanding of ASME VIII and ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3.
- Take part in R&D projects as required.
- Lead or assist in developing proposals for internal and external customers.
- Perform project management and other assigned duties on as need basis.
- Act as a technical support for Department Manager and others in the department.
- Assist in the negotiation and administration of contracts, including cost estimates, schedule, and resources required.
- Carry out customers’ work and prepare reports with recommendations based on results achieved.
- Travel to client sites for meetings, client visits, site walk-downs and observations.
- Represents Kinectrics at conferences.
- Perform other duties as required.
What you need to succeed:
- A four-year university degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Electrical Engineering plus a minimum of 6 or more years of engineering experience in Nuclear or manufacturing industry.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge and a minimum of 6 years of experience in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Electrical design of equipment, fixtures, and/or systems
- Experience in writing procedures and troubleshooting plans in the Nuclear industry.
- Experience in utilizing drafting software (i.e AutoCAD P&ID, SolidWorks, etc.) to turn conceptual design into detailed design packages is required
- Experience in design/build and FAT/commissioning testing is required. Experience in process systems, process skids is considered an asset
- Knowledge of ASME Boiler Pressure and Vessel code is considered an asset.
- Having process design experience is considered an asset.
- Experience in managing suppliers for part design, assembly, and manufacturing.
- Knowledge and/or experience with CANDU nuclear technology are considered an asset.
- Excellent problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively on a technical level.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated strong customer skills and capabilities to run research programs for customers on time and on budget.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible in areas of work and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong computer skills.
- Canadian Nuclear security clearance (minimum level 1) is required.
- Eligible for a Professional Engineer designation is required.
