The Opportunity
Position: Field Technologist
Employment Type: Permanent
Location: Tiverton, ON
Department: High Voltage Testing (HVT)
Reports to: Supervising Technologist, LV/MV Cables
Hours per week: 40 (this is a shift worker position. Shift workers may be assigned to work 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts. Overtime and weekend work may be required. Shift Workers may be scheduled for day, afternoon and/or night shifts including rotating shifts.
Starting Salary $85,038. Exact compensation may vary depending on the individual experience and qualifications of each candidate. Applicants with greater or less than the minimum qualifications for this posted opportunity may be considered for alternate opportunities.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
- Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.
- Perform and document field and laboratory electrical tests, investigations and technical studies for customers in electrical generation, transmission and distribution sector. Support of other sectors such as chemical, civil, mechanical, metallurgical, computer science, material science, environmental science, biology, etc.
- Perform field and lab tests using predominantly standard techniques; provide support in laboratory or field environments by conducting experiments, conducting tests or servicing equipment; quality control.
- Assist with forensic inspection and testing of cables joints.
- Assist with field acceptance testing of safety equipment.
- Assist with and sometimes assemble and maintain equipment, processes, systems and development of test methods.
- Participate in the analysis of test results and data by use of standard software packages.
- Write reports of a predominantly routine nature.
- Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations and solve problems.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.
- Perform clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems, faxing and photocopying.
- Perform routine processes and duties such as shipping, receiving, inventory control, etc.
- Perform other duties as required.
What You Need to Succeed
- Completion of High School plus additional specialized courses related to Electrical Technology at the community college level. A degree in Electrical Engineering Technology is a plus.
- 5 years relevant experience or equivalent advanced education in related areas of transformer testing and repair.
- Requires knowledge of electrical theory and testing standards to understand the requirements of electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of MV/LV electrical testing and relevant test equipment an asset.
- Ability to utilize computer software programs for data management, etc.
- Critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
- Willing to travel by land and air to and from remote test sites.
- Be able to work in challenging conditions.
- Strong teamwork capabilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation
This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
