Overview
The Kinectrics Circumferential Wet Scrape Tool (CWEST) is a well-established and successful tooling system that is used to remove samples from within the fuel channels of Ontario’s fleet of nuclear reactors for assessment of hydrogen isotope concentrations. It is a highly complex system, requiring a dedicated team of skilled engineers to oversee the maintenance, operation and evolution of the system.
Kinectrics is seeking a talented engineer to join the CWEST team that will help us achieve even greater levels of success in maintenance and operational efficiency and quality in this highly demanding field, with the long-term goal of progressing to the role of Engineering Technical Lead for one of our two main clients.
Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
- Responsible for understanding and executing the process and documentation requirements for the Circumferential Wet Scrape Tool maintenance and outage activities at Ontario’s nuclear operators.
- Work independently and as part of the production team to drive and lead the evaluation of workflows, identification of bottlenecks, and implementation of innovative solutions to improve productivity and quality.
- Lead or assist with troubleshooting activities during maintenance, testing and deployment evolutions.
- General lab support, i.e., periodic lab participation outside of troubleshooting
- Flagging technical issues of concern, e.g. commonly recurring challenges in lab or with a procedure
- Participate in performing procedure revisions and review to implement procedural corrections in future document releases based on issues (clarifications, questions, improvements) raised by the maintenance and outage teams.
- Preparation or review of the primary maintenance cycle outputs such as Tool Demonstration Testing reports, Ready for Service reports, and Sample Cut Location plans as applicable
- Raising and addressing Non-Conformance Reports (NCR’s)
- Participate as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in CWEST deployments to Ontario’s nuclear plants.
- Have an understanding and ability to apply engineering fundamentals to design and build projects
- Supporting design work and design documentation (calculations, drawings, etc.) as appropriate based on competencies
- Working knowledge of drafting software (i.e AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.) and able to generate CAD models and drawings as part of design activities using best industry practice is considered an asset
- Assist in developing proposals for internal and external customers.
- Liaise with customers, staff, contractors, consultants, and vendors as appropriate
- Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
- Occasional travel to Bruce Power, OPG, or other client sites may be required including outage field support.
- Other duties as required
What You Need to Succeed
- A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Nuclear, Etc. Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
- At least 5+ years of relevant engineering experience is required; nuclear inspection tooling operation and or design experience is an asset
- Experience in a manufacturing/operations environment working with intricate, custom electro-mechanical systems while complying with all applicable safety protocols, procedures, standards, and Personal Protective Equipment requirements.
- Proven problem-solving skills and experience with complex processes and electro-mechanical systems, often under tight timelines, in a high-pressure environment
- Can demonstrate attention to detail, and strict adherence to defined processes for organizing and executing projects.
- Proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team. Able to lead a team and coordinate work between multiple disciplines.
- Excellent written and verbal (technical and non-technical) communication skills to effectively discuss challenging topics with clients, internal stakeholders and team members.
- Experience with Quality Assurance Standards such as CSA N299.
- A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status.
