Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

  • Serve as a primary responder for cybersecurity events, including triage, investigation, and management of security alerts generated by SIEM platforms, endpoint protection tools, phishing reports from staff, and other security monitoring systems. Escalate confirmed threats and actively participate in incident response and post-incident analysis.
  • Lead Vulnerability Management activities, including coordinating vulnerability scanning, penetration testing results, and risk assessments. Work with system owners and management to prioritize remediation, communicate risk levels, and track mitigation efforts.
  • Provide technical leadership and ownership of cybersecurity initiatives, including the evaluation, design, and implementation of new security technologies, controls, and processes.
  • Develop, deliver, and continuously improve cybersecurity awareness training, security policies, and organization-wide awareness campaigns.
  • Perform day-to-day security administration and oversight of:
    • Security Perimeter & Network Security Controls: Firewall rule management, security policy enforcement, investigation of blocked or anomalous traffic, and support of network segmentation initiatives.
    • Network Infrastructure (Layer 1/2/3): Security-focused troubleshooting of connectivity, authentication, and segmentation issues, ensuring alignment with defense-in-depth principles.
    • Identity & Access Management (Active Directory / Entra ID): Security group administration, investigation of access issues, enforcement of least privilege, and troubleshooting security-related Group Policy and conditional access configurations.
    • Windows and Linux Servers: Security hardening, configuration, patching, and maintenance of systems supporting enterprise security services.
  • Research and resolve complex cybersecurity issues, coordinating with vendors and external partners as required.
  • Lead network buildouts and infrastructure changes by providing security requirements, reviewing designs, and liaising with installers and internal project managers.
  • Create and maintain cybersecurity documentation, including security architectures, control standards, threat models, procedures, and operational runbooks.
  • Initiate and own Change Requests related to security configurations and improvements for firewalls, switches, wireless infrastructure, identity platforms, and other security-related systems.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and third-party security vendors to assess weaknesses, evaluate products, and recommend improvements to strengthen the organization’s cybersecurity posture.
  • Resolve cybersecurity-related incidents and service requests, with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Travel to other corporate offices may be required on a limited basis.
  • Perform other cybersecurity-related duties, projects, and initiatives as required.

 

What You Need to Succeed

 

  • College or University degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline, with additional specialized coursework in security.
  • Security and/or networking certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CEH, GIAC, CCNP Security, Azure Security) are considered an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in IT infrastructure and security, with demonstrated progression into cybersecurity-focused responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of security and networking fundamentals, including DNS, TCP/IP, certificates, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), encryption, and authentication protocols.
  • Proven experience leading or significantly contributing to the implementation and operation of security technologies; experience with CrowdStrike Falcon, Tenable, and Darktrace is an asset.
  • Experience designing, upgrading, configuring, and maintaining enterprise Information Security infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing multi-year vulnerability management and remediation programs.
  • Hands-on experience with a broad range of security technologies, including:
    • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
    • Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR)
    • Identity & Access Management (IAM)
    • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
    • Network Access Control (NAC)
    • Web Application Firewalls (WAF)
  • Working experience with PowerShell or other scripting languages for security automation and administration.
  • Strong experience with Active Directory, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and Azure from a security and identity-focused perspective.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion when assessing risk, responding to incidents, and resolving complex security issues.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex cybersecurity problems spanning both security and infrastructure domains.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process.  The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete. In addition, the security clearance process for this role is also conducted in accordance with applicable US regulatory requirements, including but not limited to US Department of Energy (DOE) regulation 10 CFR Part 810. This role requires the successful applicant to meet the requirements in the regulation.
