Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to serve as Director of the Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (EIC) Engineering Directorate. In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering complex EIC solutions across a range of nuclear projects -including refurbishment, new build, life extension, digital control system upgrades, and safety-critical modifications.

 

The directorate is composed of technical engineers and specialists supporting functional design in the following areas:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Instrumentation & Control Engineering
  • Software & Computer Systems Engineering
  • Human Factors Engineering

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

  • Provide strategic direction and technical leadership for EIC services supporting nuclear projects across Canada and international markets.
  • Oversee the design, analysis, modification, and integration of electrical power distribution, protection and control, instrumentation, I&C architectures, SCADA, and DCS/PLC systems in nuclear environments.
  • Ensure adherence to CNSC regulatory requirements, CSA standards (e.g., N290 series, N286, N299), and site-specific design guides.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams through all phases of project execution — from proposal through commissioning — ensuring quality, budget, and schedule performance.
  • Serve as technical authority for nuclear EI&C matters and represent the firm in industry forums, regulatory discussions, and client engagements.
  • Support other specialized projects related to advanced technologies, SMRs, Isotopes production systems design, and process engineering projects.
  • Drive business development efforts, including client relationship management, proposal leadership, and support of strategic bids and partnerships.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of safety, technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with other technical directors and corporate leaders to align directorate goals with corporate strategy, growth objectives and deliver value added solutions to clients.
  • Plan annual department budget and headcount targets and track monthly adherence to targets.
  • Drive design quality improvements through causal analyses and corrective actions.

 

Customer Relationships and Orders:

  • Lead contact with customers and other external stakeholders. Manage complex relationships and conflicts/issues.
  • Manage existing accounts, develop new business opportunities and provide the necessary technical support to the team.
  • Maintain a customer profile through public speaking, publishing, networking, association participation etc.
  • Build relationships with and influence current and potential customers for continued and new work.
  • Identify sales leads and work with sales team in sales planning, follow through and close.
  • Maximize end-client value of services offered.
  • Ensure client satisfaction.

 

Leadership:

  • Facilitate internal relationships and effective use of resources across DES and Kinectrics.
  • Manage assigned staff including staff reviews.
  • Identify growth and development opportunities for department team members.
  • Develop, coach and nurture staff.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for others.
  • Provide technical mentoring and development of employees and proactively contribute to the recruitment of new staff. 
  • Support professional development initiatives for team members to build technical expertise and innovation.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and collaboration within the technical teams.
  • Lead and motivate team members, achieving effective utilization of resources.
  • Responsible for staffing and resourcing decisions, including scheduling and assigning work

Technical Leadership:

  • Represent the technical team in strategic discussions with internal stakeholders, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Drive innovation by integrating cutting-edge technologies and methodologies
  • Demonstrate technical leadership with advances in the field.
  • Ensure Kinectrics provides a leading-edge service to the industry
  • Active participation in technical committee and society domestically and globally with the objectives of identifying technical trends and positioning and protecting Kinectrics’ interests.

 

Delivery and Profitability:

  • Review high profile/key project proposals, track project progress and review and sign-off of project reports. Ensure that project commitments and related technical work is completed on time, within budget, and meets standards for quality and value.
  • Provide timely project updates in compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • In selected cases, lead the respond to large RFP’s that may span other departments.
  • Identify service and market development priorities.
  • Enhance Kinectrics internal and external image and market presence.
  • Maintain a customer profile through public speaking, publishing, networking, association participation etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Nuclear Engineering or a related discipline (post graduate degree or equivalent experience is preferred).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng. in Ontario or other applicable Canadian provinces); eligibility for nuclear plant site access is an asset.
  • 10+ years of experience in EIC engineering, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership role within the nuclear industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of nuclear EIC systems, licensing requirements, design codes, and safety-class systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing and adhering to Engineering Change Control processes
  • Experience with CANDU or other reactor technologies (BWR, PWR, SMR) preferred.
  • Proven success in consulting engineering, including project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and business development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams on large-scale refurbishment, upgrade, or new-build nuclear projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
