Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

The Nuclear Equipment Solutions team is looking for a dynamic leader for our Director, Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) and Environmental Qualification (EQ) role. The position provides an opportunity to lead a specialized team of project managers, engineers, scientists, and technicians and to manage a global portfolio of diverse parts supply and equipment testing in a face-paced lab environment. In this role, the Director will work closely with the CGD Section Manager (SM) and EQ SM to drive the business ensuring that the key department metrics including safety, quality, financial, growth, and continuous improvement initiatives are met.  Embracing a strong Nuclear Safety Culture is key to this role.

 

General Accountabilities:

 

  • Leadership of the service line portfolio. This includes accountabilities for safety, quality, project execution, sales/financial, and resource management.
  • Manage relationships with existing and new clients to bring in orders which meet or exceed targets. Projects to be completed on schedule and budget ensuring excellent customer service and quality.
  • Provide oversight and support to the team to ensure internal and external commitments are met.
  • Provide technical sales support through proposals and presentations, and pursuit of new business opportunities to ensure a strong sales funnel for future work.
  • Responsible for technical oversight, leading, mentoring, and resource managing the team to support project challenges and issues. These challenges/issues may involve technically complex problems in high pressure scenarios that require immediate and dedicated support.
  • Strategic planning including business development, developing and supporting CAPEX projects, and new product development.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Performance and Leadership:

 

  • Drives and maintains the strong nuclear culture through observation and coaching, continuous improvement, reporting and driving corrective actions.
  • Leads by example and achieves results by effectively communicating job performance expectations.
  • Facilitates internal relationships and effective use of resources.
  • Provides mentoring and coaching to staff on use of HU tools, procedural use and adherence, etc. to prevent break-through events in safety and quality.
  • Responsible for staffing and resourcing decisions, and working with the line management team to ensure priorities are sufficiently resourced and aligned on priorities.
  • Performs managerial functions such as hiring, promotion, performance reviews, pay increases, staff development. and disciplinary actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provides mentoring and development to employees and contribute to the recruitment of new staff.
  • Identify growth and development opportunities for team members.

 

Culture Development:

 

  • Supports Senior Director and VP to drive a culture of high performance and safety where everyone is committed to and accountable for delivery of performance goals and operational KPIs, ensuring a customer first culture.
  • Provides training and skill development for both day-to-day operations as well as for growth and improved performance.
  • Develops a culture of continuous improvement in processes and initiate/monitor corrective actions required to improve performance.
  • Creates and maintains a positive culture focused on worker morale and corporate social responsibility.

 

Health, Safety and Compliance:

 

  • Supports Senior Director and VP to drive a culture of Right first time/Safety First and that all operations are conducted in compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal safety, workplace, or environmental regulations that apply to the facility.
  • Maintains infrastructure, and machinery/equipment in an operational state to industry/OPEX standards, including planned maintenance, unplanned/emergency maintenance, and execution of the work orders.
  • Ensures quality of investigations to identify corrective action and non-recurrence.
  • Accountable supporting error free culture & staff behaviors by implementing human performance tools.

 

Financial:

 

  • Tracks financial performance on a weekly/monthly basis to ensure budget and forecasts are met for sales, revenue, and profitability. Work with Senior Director to put plans in place to manage this month over month.
  • Ensures business systems are updated and accurate including revenue forecasts, accrued revenue (cash flow), etc., on a monthly basis.
  • Works with line management to accomplish financial reporting objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual operations budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Supports Senior Director and VP with maintaining service line profit and loss, material cost, labour and bottom-line results.

 

Management and Continuous Improvement:

 

  • Ensures that the business strategy is well developed and based on good market and competitor knowledge. The agreed strategy is to be clearly articulated and communicated.
  • Develops a business model which drives efficiency into the business.
  • Seek to grow the scope of the product and service enhancements, and ensure that the physical resources (CAPEX, facilities etc.) are appropriately up to date.
  • Builds relationships with current and future customers while maintaining high customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures effective project management within service line.
  • Drives timely input to invoicing and collections.

 

What You Need to Succeed

 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering or Sciences. Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO) designation preferred.
  • 8+ years relevant work experience with preference given to those with prior lab or nuclear site experience.
  • Familiarity with nuclear industry requirements around FME, ALARA, and Human Performance Tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability among a team of individuals with diverse skill sets aligning them to exceed organizational goals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated a high commitment to quality and delivering on client commitments.
  • Able to gain the confidence of others, persuasive and comfortable working at all levels and across all functional areas in the organization.
  • Ability to build and maintain the working relationships with our customers and suppliers at the operating level.
  • Experience with project management and cost and scheduling analysis of projects.
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems and reporting requirements, particularly project financial analysis and reporting.
  • Proven experience leading and executing projects for nuclear customers, under nuclear programs.
  • Experience with nuclear equipment testing and/or product design, build, and deployment (installation and commissioning).
  • Able to effectively work with confidential and sensitive business and employee information.
  • A strong commitment to employee involvement, team building and diversity.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills.
