Position: Engineer/Analyst (Fitness-for-Service & Component Analysis)

Salary Range:   $120,000 - $145,000  Exact compensation may vary depending on the individual experience and qualifications of each candidate.  Applicants with greater or less than the minimum qualifications for this posted opportunity may be considered for alternate opportunities.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

We are seeking an engineer to fulfill the following responsibilities:  

  • Work in small cross-functional teams to develop enhanced methodologies for solving structural integrity problems for clients
  • Perform stress analysis using finite element methods, including non-linear analysis and dynamic analysis of piping, vessels, and equipment
  • Lead and perform advanced fitness-for-service and fracture mechanics assessments for degraded piping, pressure vessels, and nuclear components
  • Carry out ASME Code analyses, including Class 1 analysis of piping and components using computer tools and classical methods
  • Develop and maintain computer programs to drive analysis work
  • Prepare  technical analysis reports and documentation

 

What You Need to Succeed

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Engineering Science, or equivalent is required.
  • Graduate-level studies (Master’s or PhD) in one of the specialty areas is preferred.
  • 3 to 6 years of relevant experience; however exceptions can be made for highly qualified candidates
  • P. Eng designation or actively pursuing
  • ASME Appendix XXIII qualification is an asset
  • OPG and Bruce Power Security Clearance is an asset

 

Technical Knowledge and Experience:

  • Strong understanding and foundation in classical solid mechanics
  • Familiarity with the design principles of vessels, piping, and supportsStrong understanding of CANDU design, including reactor structures, feeders, primary heat transport (PHT) piping, and supports
  • Experience in flaw/defect acceptance evaluation, Level 2/3 FFS; using fracture mechanics approaches including J-integral
  • Fatigue and crack growth calculation under cyclic and thermal loading
  • Demonstrated experience in applying codes and standards including ASME Section III, CSA N285, CSA N289.3, B31.1, ASME FFS / API579, ASME Section VIII, ASME Section XI
  • Experience in welding procedures qualification and applications
  • Familiarity with NDE technology and principles of inspection requirements
  • Demonstrated past examples of successful large-scale engineering simulations using advanced/novel computer technology

 

Engineering Tools Skillset

  • In-depth experience using finite element software including ANSYS and ABAQUS
  • Advanced computer programming skills and knowledge, with experience using ANSYS APDL, Python, Matlab, Visual Basic, C++, and others
  • Experience using piping analysis programs including AutoPIPE, PIPESTRESS, and CAESAR II

 

Other Competencies

  • Project management experience will be an asset
  • Experience providing urgent operational support to clients and performing analysis under production pressure

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
