Position:                             Mechatronics Engineer- Robotics

Kinectrics’ Field Inspection team is developing next generation of inspection devices for power delivery industry. Our cutting-edge technology is used to ensure public safety, power supply reliability and reducing environmental impact. We do work for electric utilities all around the Globe and we have local robotic deployment teams in North America, Europe and Asia. Our R&D team based in Toronto is considered one of the pioneers in this field. Our team is looking for a mechatronics/robotics engineer to contribute significantly to the development of inspection devices, integrating sensors, onboard computer, and motors into fully functional automatized inspection device. You will be responsible for mechanical and robotic design, existing product improvements, providing remote or on-site support to robotic device operators.

Expected tasks

  • Ensure Kinectrics provides a leading-edge robotic fleet to the industry. Participate in or lead new product/service development projects. Develop technical roadmap and new product development ideas
  • Design and develop new inspection devices, integrate latest industry developments
  • Design, build and commission small-scale proof-of-concept and/or full-scale prototypes of robotic systems
  • Lead and assist in production of drawings, bill of materials and assembly procedures to support the product development and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the product development process and assist in the preparation, revision and maintenance of internal procedures to streamline the operations. facilitate the continuous improvement of Kinectrics developed products.
  • Work at customer sites in worldwide locations to initiate new services and strategic partners.  Field duty and travel is a part of this position. 10%-30% travel is common for the role.

Selection Criteria

Experience, Qualification, Educational and Technical Competencies:

  • Completion of 4 years bachelor’s degree in engineering, specialized knowledge in electrical, mechanical, or mechatronics (Robotics) engineering considered an asset.
  • Experience with designing, building and operating robotic systems.
  • Experience with RF transmitters, communication protocols and control of automatized devices. 
  • In-depth knowledge of kinematic systems and actuating linkages.
  • Understanding various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and latest NDT sensors is an asset.
  • Understanding of electronics, functionality of components, circuits and testing electro-mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of new product development process including mechanical design, prototyping, design review process, material choices, plastic and metal fabrication is considered an asset.
