Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

  • Work as an integral part of the Overhead Lines engineering team with a primary focus on delivering technical laboratory testing services to clients. 
    • Aspects include but not are not limited to: mechanical and material evaluation of new and aging overhead lines, fiber optic cables and associated hardware accessories.
  • Provide technical and analytical support for multiple projects of varying complexity to ensure work is completed on schedule, on budget and to required quality standards.
  • Work independently and as a part of a technical team to contribute to technical procedure writing, data analysis and report preparations.
  • Act as a resource in contributing to the preparation of quotes/proposals.
    • Aspects include but are not limited to: deliver sales/technical presentations to clients, build relationships with current and potential customers, identify sales leads and work with sales team in sales planning, follow through and close out.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to technical staff in the area of testing and evaluation of overhead conductors, fiber optic cables and hardware accessories.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.
  • Ensure all project tasks and tests are executed safely.
  • Identify growth and development opportunities and work up CAPEX, NDP cases to generate growth.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the technical and project management process.
  • Liaise with staff, contractors, consultants and vendor resources as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

What You Need to Succeed

 

  • Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related disciplines). 
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the testing of overhead conductors, fiber optic cables, vibration mitigating hardware and all other associated overhead line components.
  • Requires demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and electrical theory; especially fundamental engineering knowledge related to power delivery systems.
  • Requires experience with measuring equipment, testing standards and requirements for testing overhead line components. Active participation in industry committees is considered an asset.
  • Requires experience with mechanical and electrical testing practices, procedures and safety standards.
  • Good understanding of overhead power lines, specific conductor types, overhead hardware and any specifications related to them.
  • Experience writing technical reports, document failure investigations, training material, procedures and specifications.
  • Experience working in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.
  • Experience in drafting quality documents and participating in quality audits is required.
  • Ability to utilize computer software programs for data management, such as Microsoft Excel, drafting programs such as Solid Works and familiarity with LabView for data acquisition is required.
  • Excellent problem-solving, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and work on multiple projects in parallel with the capability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, clearing bottlenecks and within project constraints (time, cost, quality). Flexibility to meet tight deadlines.
  • Basic understanding of continuous improvement techniques; working experience and actual implementation of workplace organization and/or process improvements (ideally related to connectors).
  • Strong customer focus and broad experience for successfully developing new service offers.
  • Good technical presentation skills and ability to articulate technical terms to a highly technical and non-technical audience.
  • Willingness to work at customer sites in North America and worldwide
  • Willingness to work overtime (evenings and weekends) to meet tight deadlines.
  • Must be self-motivated, and have strong prioritizing and time management skills
