Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
- Support field grounding testing activities including setup and execution of soil resistivity measurements, current injection testing and related field tests.
- Assist with layout and installation of test leads, electrodes, temporary grounding systems and associated field wiring.
- Support mobilization and demobilization of grounding test equipment, including loading, unloading, setup and teardown at field sites.
- Coordinate and manage logistics for grounding testing activities including equipment readiness, transportation, and site requirements.
- Maintain and manage grounding test equipment, including routine inspection, maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Maintain calibration records, equipment logs and tracking of grounding test instrumentation.
- Assist in preparation of field documentation, test records and routine reports related to grounding testing activities.
- Support safe execution of grounding tests including participation in job hazard analyses, site assessments, and adherence to field safety procedures.
Secondary Duties: Cable and Switchgear Testing
- Support project execution for advanced electrical testing / condition assessment primarily related to high-criticality low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) electrical assets in generation plants, utility distribution, and industrial environments. The primary focus of this role will be activities related to field-based commissioning, maintenance, post-repair, or investigative / troubleshooting testing of LV and MV power cables, but eventually other electrical assets including MV Switchgear and HV/EHV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) may be included.
- Perform testing and analyzing data from, and prepare technical reports related to advanced electrical (and occasionally material-based) non-destructive field-based testing of LV and MV power cables and Switchgear using one more of the following techniques:
- Withstand testing
- Using Power Frequency (50/60Hz), Near Power Frequency (20 – 300Hz) or Very Low Frequency (0.1Hz) voltages. (Also applies to Switchgear and GIS Bus)
- Diagnostic Partial Discharge (PD) testing
- Using conventional IEC 60270 and non-conventional, broadband methods based on Power Frequency (50/60Hz), Near Power Frequency (20 – 300Hz) or Very Low Frequency (0.1Hz) voltages. (Also applies to Switchgear)
- Dielectric Loss / VLF (0.1Hz) Tangent Delta
- Dielectric Spectroscopy (Frequency Domain or Time Domain)
- Time & Frequency Domain Reflectometry (TDR, FDR, including LIRATM)
- AC and DC Metallic Resistance Measurements
- Polarization / Depolarization Current (PDC) and DC Insulation Resistance Measurement
- DC Jacket Integrity Testing
- Indenter Modulus - LV Cables Only
- Withstand testing
What You Need to Succeed
- Completion of High School plus additional specialized courses related to Electrical Technology at the community college level.
- 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent advanced education in related areas. Requires knowledge of electrical theory and testing standards to understand the requirements for HV testing of electrical equipment and safety equipment.
- Requires experience and familiarity with HV testing practices, procedures and safety standards.
- Ability to utilize computer software programs for data management, etc.
- Willing to travel by land and air to and from remote test sites. (This position requires up to 50% travel on average for the year with some months consisting of majority travel)
- Critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
- Be able to work in challenging conditions.
- Strong teamwork and lead and follow capabilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to successfully obtain and maintain valid nuclear security clearance
This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
