Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
- Prepare and coordinate departmental budgets, business plans and forecasts
- Co-ordinate finance activities for operational business unit – month end, year end, budget, etc.
- Assist/mentor project leaders with project billings, expense allocations etc.
- Analyze trends and other data used in preparing forecasts of sales, expenses and cash flows of the department
- Review and analyze financial results and variances from budget and make suggestions for improvements or cost savings
- Provide support and training to line staff on accounting processes and policies for projects
- As a key member of the team provide insight into the financial aspects of projects through to the project leaders, the Department Manager and the Business Manager
- Provide month to month financial data and trends
- Explain financial processes to technical staff
- Assist in the preparation of business cases
- Assist in financial presentations for the department
- Review projects for provisions (warranty, loss etc.)
- Make recommendations for business improvements
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Ensure adequate internal controls are in place to ensure accurate financial information
- Act as backup support for other business/financial analysts for vacation, illness etc.
- Other duties as required
What You Need to Succeed
Essential Competencies
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Microsoft Excel: Advanced experience, versions Office 365. Should be using these applications in current position on a regular basis
- SAP experience
- Balance sheet and P&L Account reconciliations experience
- Keen attention to detail and ability to self-check work
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team situation and assist staff to develop their own level of expertise in this area
- Methodical in working with spreadsheets with the ability to draw out the underlying trends and explain variances
- Self-starter who can manage work under tight deadlines
- Demonstrated high level of initiative to propose and implement new business ideas in area of expertise
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:
- A four-year university education or equivalent in business, finance, accounting, plus further concentrated studies in related areas
- CPA Designation preferred
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP under ASPE/IFRS
- A period of at least 5 - 7 years relevant work experience.
