The Opportunity

 

Position: General Purpose Shift Worker

Employment Type: Temporary up to 6 months

Employment Level: Entry

Location: 800 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, ON

Department: Projects & Facilities

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Hours per week: 40 - Shift work is required. Able to work flexible hours (including nights) from time to time.

Number Required: 3 required for afternoon shifts: 3pm–11:30pm

Starting Salary: $30.47 hourly

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

  • Mainly responsible for providing janitorial and housekeeping services for the Kipling site (multiple buildings). Facilities include boardrooms, offices, common areas, kitchen areas, cafeteria, washrooms, stairwells, locker rooms, etc., with the potential to expand into various lab areas after proper training is obtained. 
  • Janitorial responsibilities include:
    • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors using appropriate floor cleaning equipment (including power equipment).
    • Clean and sanitize various surfaces, touchpoints, and furniture.
    • Clean and sanitize washrooms, including sinks, counters, toilets, mirrors, and restocking supplies. 
    • Garbage and recycling collection and disposal.
    • Clean and sanitize kitchen areas, including counters and appliances.
    • Dust items such as furniture, cabinets, blinds, door frames, railings, etc.
    • Conduct occasional deep cleaning tasks such as carpet cleaning or window washing.
    • Refill water stations.
    • Various routine tasks related to cleaning and housekeeping of work areas
  • Respond to the cleanup of high priority non-hazardous spills.
  • Follow Safety Data Sheet instructions for handling cleaning chemicals.
  • Ensure proper storage and use of cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and complete checklists for daily/weekly/monthly routines.
  • Notify manager regarding any identified maintenance repairs needed or hazards on Kipling site.
  • Respond to the snow removal needs during winter seasons. This includes shoveling walkways/stairs, salting paths, and supporting snow removal teams.
  • Respond to indoor and outdoor housekeeping needs including landscaping needs.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics’ safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned.

 

What You Need to Succeed

 

  • Completion of High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience working in cleaning services and facilities maintenance is an asset.
  • Experience working in a professional workplace and following safety protocols.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and physical environment including standing for extended periods, crouching, bending, kneeling, lifting, pushing and pushing heavy items (up to 50lbs), etc.
  • Ability to safely set up, climb, and work from ladders in accordance with workplace safety procedures.
  • Ability to work outside through various weather conditions for long periods of time under proper safety conditions and with PPE.
  • Must be able and willing to adapt and action accordingly to frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated customer focused approach and ability to maintain positive working relationships with staff.
  • Must have strong prioritizing and time management skills.
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to details.
  • Self-motivated, positive, enthusiastic, proactive, and reliable.
  • Pride in work, cleanliness and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to obtain and sustain reliability status security clearance.

 

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
