About the Position:
Kinectrics is seeking a strategic and results-driven individual to take on the leadership role of Manager – Decommissioning & Waste Management to lead and expand our service offerings associated with planning, analysis, and operational support for the safe dismantling of nuclear facilities and the handling, transportation, and disposal of radioactive and hazardous materials. This role includes leading activities associated with waste logistics, shielding analysis, reduction of worker dose, dose calculation and dispersion analysis, and optimization of waste handling and separation.
Key projects and customers include major nuclear utilities in Canada and worldwide, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s Deep Geological Repository (NWMO DGR), nuclear refurbishment waste management, medical isotope production and processing facilities, and Kinectrics’ own infrastructure development projects.
The successful candidate will oversee multidisciplinary project teams, ensure regulatory compliance, maintain client relationships, and drive business development initiatives within this specialized field. This role is focused on utilizing the experience of the team in decommissioning strategies, waste characterization, licensing frameworks, and logistics planning, as well as proven leadership in executing technically complex projects on time and within budget. The Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing Kinectrics’ position as a trusted provider of lifecycle support services to utilities, government agencies, and international partners in the nuclear sector.
Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
In this role you will be managing a multi-disciplined team to secure new orders and then execute projects on key portfolios including: NWMO DGR, Pickering Safe Storage, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Hydro Quebec Gentilly-1 (G1), Wolsong decommissioning in Korea, and more.
You will also be responsible for providing expert waste management support to Kinectrics' internal projects and operations including our nuclear facilities licensed by the CNSC including the Teeswater Laundry Facility (TLF), Ontario Nuclear Services (ONS), Kipling ETLF, ONS, Kipling Avenue Campus, Isotope enrichment and production projects, and more.
You will take the lead in delivering high-value technical solutions across the nuclear sector, guiding a team of engineers and specialists to success. You’ll:
- Lead and inspire multidisciplinary teams to solve complex challenges for utilities and other clients.
- Ensure project excellence by supporting planning, execution, and performance across scope, cost, schedule, and quality.
- Leverage deep regulatory expertise, particularly in nuclear safety and licensing, to support high-impact initiatives.
- Drive innovation in decommissioning and waste management while developing forward-thinking technical solutions.
- Act as a strategic advisor—consulting with clients, strengthening relationships, and enhancing business capabilities.
- Engage cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, from design to construction, to deliver integrated solutions.
- Own risk management, resolving complex project issues independently and proactively.
- Communicate effectively, delivering high-quality proposals, reports, and presentations.
- Mentor junior staff, review complex work, and lead resource planning, bid preparation, and staffing decisions.
- Support senior leadership and contribute to strategic direction through operational insight and execution.

What You Bring to the Team
- A four-year university degree in Engineering; postgraduate degree(s) considered to be an asset.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PEO) in Ontario or other Canadian province, or eligibility for licensure therein is an asset.
- 8+ years of experience in the nuclear industry, ideally in a consultancy role, including leadership of multi-disciplinary projects. Candidates with strong leadership potential and less experience may be considered for development roles.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian nuclear regulation including implementing requirements in CNSC REGDOC-2.11, -2.11.2, -2.4.1 and -2.4.4 along with relevant codes and standards such as CSA N294 and N288 series. Experience in other jurisdictions is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with nuclear power plant or other nuclear facility operations, decommissioning, and waste management.
- Experience with heavy water facilities, tritium removal, or isotope separation systems (power or medical) is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all formats and audiences.
- Strong initiative, learning agility, and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to obtain (or currently hold) relevant nuclear security clearance(s). Clearance applications will be facilitated by Kinectrics, as required.
- Willingness to travel to temporary work locations as required to support the role (10-25% including, but not limited to GTA, Bruce County, other Kinectrics offices, international) is an asset.
