About the Position

• Department: Medical Isotopes (ISOE)
• Location: 800 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, ON – On-site
• Term Length: 8 or 12 months
• Year of Study: 3rd & 4th year preferred
• Salary: The hourly rate for this position is $24.44-$28.11 per hour. Please note, the salary information provided is intended to be used as a guideline. Final rate offered will vary upon candidate’s prior co-op/work experience, years of study completed, relevant skills, as well as internal equity considerations.

How You Will Make an Impact

This opportunity involves responsibilities including but not limited to:

• Supporting the development and optimization of processes for the production of Medical Isotopes.  
• Performing all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures. 
• Performing sample preparation and procedures related to the radiochemistry group (including instrumentation such as gamma spectrometry analysis) while ensuring a high level of accuracy. 
• Working efficiently to meet quality and TAT specifications. 
• Setting up, conducting and supporting chemical experiments, tests, and analyses, including the chemical purification of enriched isotopes such as Yb-176.
• Collecting and analyzing data from experiments to identify trends and make recommendations for process improvements.
• Designing and conducting experiments for process optimization, method development, and scale-up; utilizing statistical Design of Experiments (DoE) principles. 
• Following Standard Operating Procedures/Technical work instructions (SOPs/TWIs) and specific Work Instructions (WIS) when conducting laboratory work or procedure. 
• Performing equipment and instrument calibrations, verifications, and validations according to established procedures. Offering input for efficiencies and improvements. 
• Providing support to troubleshoot, service, and calibrate the repair or installation of equipment, processes, or products. 
• Performing technical literature search. 
• Critically review data and prepare technical reports written by self or others. 
• Support and comply with Kinectrics quality program. 

What You Need to Succeed

• Currently enrolled full-time in a post-secondary undergraduate Science program (e.g., Chemistry, 

Biochemistry, or Health Physics) and Engineering programs (e.g., Chemical, Bio-Medical, Bio Manufacturing, Nuclear and Engineering Physics) or related/equivalent programs, requiring a co-op placement. 

• Previous (hands-on) work term/co-op experience considered an asset.
• Well-versed in the Microsoft Office suite. 
• Willingness to work with radioactive materials and to work in contamination control areas (CCAs). 
• Ability to exercise judgment and resourcefulness in resolving technical problems. 
• Additional experience using analytical instrumentation in a laboratory setting is an asset. 
• Additional experience with strong acids such as HF, HNO3, HCl, is considered an asset. 
• Additional experience in radiochemical analysis and separations and chemical process development is considered an asset.  
• Demonstrates confidence and drive in completing multiple tasks efficiently and independently. 
• Medically able to be (respirator) fit tested.  
• Willingness to work in a manufacturing/operations environment and must comply with all applicable safety protocols, procedures, standards, and Personal Protective Equipment requirements. 
• Strong written and oral communication skills to express creativity and innovation in a technical context. Can speak intelligently to operations teams, external vendors, customers, and company executives. 
• Strong organizational skills supporting many parallel activities.
