About the Position
- Business Area: Transmission & Distribution Technologies (TDT)
- Department: Line Asset Management (LAM)
- Location: 800 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, ON – Onsite
- Term Length: 4, 8, or 12 months
- Year of Study: 3rd or 4th year preferred
- Salary: The hourly rate for this position is $21.20-$27.43 per hour. Please note, the salary information provided is intended to be used as a guideline. Final rate offered will vary upon candidate’s prior co-op/work experience, years of study completed, relevant skills, as well as internal equity considerations.
How You Will Make an Impact
This opportunity involves responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Support with sample preparation (e.g. epoxy terminations, compression connectors), test setup, and execution of tests
- Carry out hands-on technical work in the laboratory under supervision of senior technologists
- Assist technologists and engineers in carrying out mechanical/electrical evaluation of overhead conductors, fiber optics, etc
- Complete test logsheets and other records in accordance with Kinectrics’ ISO 9001/17025 quality program
- Provide verbal updates to laboratory supervisor and project managers on testing status
- Support with computer aided design of test fixtures/jigs using Solidworks on a limited basis.
- Keep a clean work environment and practice good housekeeping in an industrial setting
- Perform all duties in safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as required
What You Need to Succeed
- Currently enrolled full-time in a post-secondary undergraduate Mechanical/Electrical Engineering program, requiring a co-op placement
- Experience with hand tools (e.g. drill, hammer, grinder, etc) is required
- Must be able to perform moderate physical tasks, physically fit: ability to move/lift items up to 40-50 lbs.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work co-operatively with a variety of staff
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team situation and high level of initiative
- Basic computer skills are required (e.g. Microsoft Office, Solidworks/AutoCAD)
- Familiarity with data acquisition programs (e.g. LabView) or measuring instruments (e.g. calipers, LVDTs) is an asset
