Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

  • Conducting and managing projects in the Distribution & Asset Management Department primarily in the area of power system studies.
  • Quote, plan and run projects including negotiation and administration of contracts, estimates of costs, scheduling and resource management.
  • Execution of work assignments including development of qualification specification and test plan, reports
  • Participate in workshops and conferences and present high-quality articles for presentation and publication.
  • Be prepared to travel within Canada, the United States and elsewhere to complete projects.
  • Maintain expertise in the field of transmission and distribution asset management specifically with transient, grid interconnection studies and NERC studies.
  • Participate in national and international bodies focused on technology, reliability, safety and standards as needed.

 

 

 

What You Need to Succeed

 

Essential Competencies:

  • Strong sales initiative to identify opportunities where Kinectrics engineering teams can contribute to power utility engineering, implement new business, and proven experience securing (winning) client projects. Working in a client facing role for 5 years in Canada or United States is considered a minimum requirement.
  • Deep understanding of connection impact studies required by utilities and IEEE 1547.1 standards
  • Deep understanding of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) engineering, including studies, integration, characteristics, and transient limitations
  • Extensive knowledge of power system analysis in generation and distribution systems, including short circuit analysis, load flow, Arc flash, power quality, Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) and transient stability
  • Flexibility to work in a wide array of technical topics related to distribution engineering. 
  • Strong customer focus and ability to successfully develop new business with Canadian and US power utilities and/or distribution companies
  • Some experience in designing and planning, within distribution systems.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as needed by the project.
  • Ability to manage time and budgets on Kinectrics projects and to lead/work on multiple projects in parallel.
  • Knowledge and experience in project management.
  • Proven computer skills with a variety of software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, PSCAD, CYME, ETAP and etc. (PSS/E preferred)
  • Strong oral and written English communication skills.

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (Ph. D preferred) in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a focus on Power Systems
  • A minimum 5 (five), preferred 10 (ten) years of working experience in Canada or United States in areas of distribution power systems analysis, DER connection impact assessments and related standards, short circuit, load flows, distribution load flow, loss analysis, protection coordination, arc flash, transient analysis, EMTP modelling,
  • Knowledge and experience with distribution standards and components such as transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, arresters, switches, automation, insulated power cables, overhead line conductors and insulators.
