Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

•        Provide project management leadership for projects involving high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage cable and transformer systems.

•        Manage projects from initial customer inquiry and proposal development through planning, execution, monitoring, reporting, invoicing and closeout.

•        Develop project execution plans that define scope, deliverables, schedule, budget, resource requirements, procurement needs, quality requirements, safety expectations, risks, assumptions and responsibilities.

•        Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams consisting of engineering, technical, laboratory, field, operations, commercial and administrative personnel.

•        Manage projects involving the inspection, testing, commissioning, maintenance, condition assessment, qualification, troubleshooting and engineering support of cable and transformer assets in laboratory and field environments.

•        Work with engineering and technical personnel to coordinate installation support, commissioning, diagnostic testing, inspection, maintenance, repair, failure investigation and forensic analysis activities.

•        Establish and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts and resource plans. Monitor performance, identify variances and implement corrective actions to protect project objectives, revenue and profitability.

•        Identify, assess and manage project risks, issues and opportunities. Develop mitigation and contingency plans and escalate significant matters as required.

•        Manage project scope and document changes to customer requirements, technical assumptions, schedules, budgets and deliverables. Prepare and obtain approval for change orders where required.

•        Serve as the primary project contact for assigned customers and communicate regularly regarding project status, technical activities, schedule, commercial matters, risks, issues and required decisions.

•        Prepare and support quotations, proposals and tenders, including scope of work, execution methodology, assumptions, exclusions, schedules, resource requirements and cost estimates.

•        Support contract negotiation and administration, including clarification of customer requirements, review of commercial terms and coordination of contractual deliverables.

•        Coordinate field activities, including personnel, equipment, subcontractors, customer interfaces, site access, travel, shipping, permits and project documentation.

•        Review project reports, test documentation, technical deliverables and customer communications for completeness and alignment with contractual requirements before submission.

•        Ensure project activities are conducted in accordance with applicable quality requirements, safe work practices, customer procedures and Kinectrics policies and programs.

•        Support project invoicing, revenue forecasting, cost control and the timely resolution of outstanding commercial matters.

•        Identify opportunities for follow-on work and additional services and support the continued development of Kinectrics capabilities in cable and transformer services.

•        Provide project management guidance to engineers, technologists, technicians and other project personnel and contribute to the improvement of project management processes, tools and lessons learned.

•        Manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.

•        Coordinate the assignment of personnel, equipment and other resources to meet customer schedules while balancing competing priorities and resource constraints.

•        Identify scheduling conflicts, equipment shortages and staffing gaps, and implement solutions to minimize project impacts.

•        Adjust schedules in response to customer requests, emergent work, site conditions, equipment availability and other project changes.

•        Coordinate the availability, movement and readiness of specialized testing equipment to support project execution.

What You Need to Succeed

•      A four-year university degree in electrical engineering or another relevant engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in project management.

•      Professional Engineer designation or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer is preferred.

•      Project Management Professional designation or another recognized project management certification is considered an asset.

•      Approximately seven to ten years of relevant experience, including progressively responsible project management or project leadership experience.

•      Demonstrated project management experience in the electrical utility, power systems, energy, industrial, engineering consulting, construction, commissioning, testing or asset management sectors.

•      Experience scheduling and coordinating field personnel, engineering resources, specialized testing equipment and subcontractors across multiple simultaneous projects.

•      Experience managing projects involving high voltage, medium voltage or low voltage cable systems, power or distribution transformers, substations, electrical testing, commissioning, maintenance, condition assessment or related field services is preferred.

•      General knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems and associated equipment, including cables, transformers, breakers, switchgear, conductors, terminations, joints and insulation systems.

•      Working knowledge of cable and transformer design, installation, testing, commissioning, operation, maintenance and asset management practices.

•      Experience developing project scopes, execution plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts, resource plans, risk registers, proposals, quotations and customer-facing reports.

•      Experience administering contracts, managing changes in scope and coordinating subcontractors, suppliers or external service providers.

•      Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate engineering, technical, laboratory and field personnel.

•      Strong commercial awareness, including project costing, forecasting, profitability, invoicing and change management.

•      Strong customer focus and the ability to establish credibility, manage expectations and maintain effective relationships with customers and stakeholders.

•      Strong organization, planning, decision-making, risk management and problem-solving skills.

•      Ability to work independently, take ownership of assignments and manage multiple projects and priorities concurrently.

•      Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and familiarity with project scheduling or project management software.

•      Strong oral, written, presentation, negotiation, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.

•      Ability and willingness to travel nationally and internationally and to work at customer sites, substations, industrial facilities, laboratories and other field locations as required.

•      Ability to meet applicable customer, site access, safety, security and regulatory requirements.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
