General Overview
At Kinectrics, our Medical Isotopes team is transforming the landscape of medical isotopes and radiotherapeutics. As a Radiochemist, you’ll be joining one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic divisions of our organization, where groundbreaking projects and cutting-edge advancements are the norm. This position will be responsible for performing radiochemical and inorganic processing, synthesis, purification, and analysis work. The role will conduct both non-radioactive and radioactive lab work with a specific emphasis on inorganic and radiometal processing and supporting the development of GMP isotope production programs and procedures.
Accountabilities: How you will make an impact
- Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.
- Conduct routine stable isotope recovery, purification and processing activities in accordance with approved procedures.
- Perform standard and non-standard laboratory and field investigations including radiochemical separations and purifications using established protocols.
- Prepare and process radiochemical and non-radioactive samples for analysis including conducting experiments, conducting tests, servicing equipment and quality control.
- Support in the synthesis of radiochemical products as needed.
- Perform analysis using a variety of radiometric and standard laboratory instrumentation.
- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Operate and monitor instruments for radiochemical synthesis, purification, and quality control.
- Follow strict radiation safety protocols using ALARA principles and laboratory procedures in accordance with Kinectrics’ safety policies.
- Handle radioactive materials safely, maintaining proper documentation of all activities.
- Record data meticulously in lab notebooks, spreadsheets, or electronic systems.
- Prepare routine and non-routine technical reports, summaries, and quality control documents.
- Work collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and other technicians to achieve project goals.
- Communicate effectively regarding laboratory operations and findings.
- Adhere to the Kinectrics’ Code of Conduct.
- Occasionally supervise phases of the project and work.
- Occasionally supervise, train and co-ordinate the work of others including safety.
- Directly respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations and solve problems
- Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of work performed.

What you need to succeed:
Essential Competencies:
- Demonstrated technical skills in radiochemistry. Experience in process chemistry, inorganic chemistry, chemical synthesis, and separations science is an asset.
- Familiarity with process and analytical instrumentation, including analytical and preparative scale LC, radio-chromatographic techniques, ICP-MS, gamma-spectroscopy, and other traditional chemical and physical techniques.
- Understanding of ALARA and other safe lab techniques.
- Excellent computer skills with a variety of laboratory related and other software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and LabManager.
- Knowledge, training and experience in radiation protection and radiation safety.
- Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
- Strong written (technical and non-technical) and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently on a day-to-day basis.
- Ability to exercise discretion and judgement in resolving problems.
Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:
- Completion of a three-year engineering/science technology program, with strong preference for chemistry or chemical or materials science engineering. A science program in another discipline is acceptable in conjunction with extra courses and training or job experience in chemistry and radiochemistry.
- 8 years related experience or equivalent education in a technical area, preferably in process or radiochemical process development, in order to have practical ability to lead projects, train technicians, and troubleshoot technical problems while under time constraints.
- Experience working in a GMP production environment considered an asset.
- Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a valid nuclear site security clearance.
