Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

Bruce Site and Projects (BSP) Division is looking for individuals with an interest in participating in a fast-paced, challenging environment covering a wide range of business, engineering, and project management activities. There is a need for a Section Manager to continue to lead this growth at Bruce Power and other customer sites. The service offerings of the Bruce Power Engineering Projects Section includes providing engineering support for Bruce Power Design Engineering Division. In this role, the Section Manager will support project execution, sales and strategic growth objective and continuous improvement initiatives. Embracing a strong nuclear safety culture is key to this role.

 

General Accountabilities

 

  • Management of the section resources – engineers, project coordinators, field engineers.
  • Manage relationships with existing and new clients to bring in orders which meet or exceed targets.
  • Assign resources, maintain budgets associated with assigned projects within and sometimes outside the section.
  • Provide technical support through proposals and presentations.
  • Provide Support to Director – Project Management & Project Controls, BSP.
  • Strategize with Director and VP with regards to business and staff growth.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Performance and Leadership:

 

  • Leads by example and achieves results by effectively communicating job performance expectations.
  • Facilitates internal relationships and effective use of resources.
  • Proactively seeks to enhance the resource base.
  • Responsible for staffing and resourcing decisions, including scheduling, and assigning work.
  • Performs managerial functions such as hiring, promotion, performance reviews, pay increases, staff development. and disciplinary actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provides mentoring and development to employees and contribute to the recruitment of new staff.
  • Identifies growth and development opportunities for team members.

 

Culture Development:

 

  • Supports Director – Project Management & Project Controls, BSP to drive a culture of high performance and safety where everyone is committed to and accountable for delivery of performance goals and operational KPIs, ensuring a customer first culture.
  • Provides training and skill development for both day-to-day operations as well as for growth and improved performance.
  • Develops a culture of continuous improvement in processes and initiate/monitor corrective actions required to improve performance.
  • Creates and maintains a positive culture focused on worker morale and corporate social responsibility.

 

Health, Safety and Compliance:

 

  • Supports Director – Project Management & Project Controls, BSP to drive a culture of Right first time/Safety First and that all scheduling, programming and monitoring work is conducted in compliance with regulations that apply to the work and customer.
  • Ensures quality of investigations to identify corrective action and non-recurrence.
  • Accountable supporting error free culture & staff behaviors by implementing human performance tools.
  • Leads by example and set high standards for Health & Safety and Nuclear Safety Culture.

 

Financial:

 

  • Ensures business systems are updated and accurate including revenue forecasts.
  • Manages and motivates assigned staff and team members, achieving effective utilization of resources and prioritization. Ensure effective facility management, work allocation and safe operations.
  • Accomplishes financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual operations budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Supports Director – Project Management & Project Controls, BSP with maintaining service line profit and loss, material cost, labour and bottom-line results, budgeting, business planning and reporting as needed.

 

Management and Continuous Improvement:

 

  • Ensures that the business strategy is well developed and based on good market and competitor knowledge. The agreed strategy is to be clearly articulated and communicated.
  • Develops a business model which drives efficiency into the business.
  • Seeks to grow the scope of the product and service enhancements.
  • Builds relationships with current and future customers while maintaining high customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures effective project management within service line.
  • Drives timely input to invoicing and collections processes.
  • Meets personal and team billability targets.

 

What You Need to Succeed

 

  • A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering or Sciences. Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO) designation is an asset.
  • 12+ years relevant work experience with preference given to those with nuclear site experience.
  • 2 days at Bruce Power Site per week is a must to ensure meetings with staff and clients are maintained and business is grown.
  • Bruce Power security clearance is required.
  • Familiarity with nuclear industry requirements around Human Performance Tools.
  • Good understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation.
  • Demonstrated leadership among a team of individuals with diverse skill sets aligning them to exceed organizational goals.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated a high commitment to quality and delivering on client commitments.
  • Able to gain the confidence of others, persuasive and comfortable working at all levels and across all functional areas in the organization.
  • Strong customer focus and commitment to business unit goals.
  • Ability to build and maintain the working relationships with our customers and suppliers at the operating level.
  • Experience with project management and cost and scheduling analysis of projects.
  • Strong knowledge of financial systems and reporting requirements, particularly project financial analysis and reporting.
  • Able to effectively work with confidential and sensitive business and employee information.
