Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

  • Perform all work in compliance with Kinectrics business code of conduct, policies, procedures, practices, including but not limited to compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, regulatory and governing codes.
  • Provide engineering support for ISOE projects and facilities
  • Conceptual and Detail design of components and assemblies used in Medical Isotopes Department.
  • Complete P&IDs, detail and assembly drawings
  • Perform engineering analysis (calculation and FEA) in support of mechanical design
  • Able to work under the direction of Principal Engineer and Subject Matter Experts to develop conceptual designs and turn them into detailed design packages following a structured design process
  • Participate in definition of design requirements
  • Participate in interdisciplinary group that consists of electrical, software, and mechanical engineers, physicists and chemists.
  • Provide guidance and work with procurement, technicians and operational staff, in procurement of components, assembly of product and troubleshooting, testing, and other duties as required
  • Provide work direction to and check the work of assigned staff (junior engineer/scientists and technical staff)
  • Applies experience based knowledge to identify and decide between alternative approaches to carry out projects and to resolve problems associated with conduct of projects
  • Provide technically accurate and feasible solutions
  • Identify and respond effectively to internal and external contacts and appropriately respond to potentially difficult needs and requests of colleagues and clients.
  • Coordinate work activities between current customers and Kinectrics, gaining cooperation from others
  • Provide clear verbal and written communication to clients in the form of proposals, reports, recommendations and presentations
  • Act as a project/task leader with accountability to assemble, co-ordinate and /or lead internal and external resources to execute projects to time and budget, for projects usually involving only one discipline; or provide technical proficiency and guidance for key capabilities that support specific program areas. Help establish or provide input to determine milestones for the project and monitor progress against these parameters. Provide client with regular reports on progress at a predetermined schedule. May be responsible for the schedule and budget of the project including the support of billing and payment processes as required.
  • Provide technical input to Kinectrics and external planning committees. Participate in joint research or developmental projects with external agencies and utilities.
  • Negotiate and execute standard contracts with external customers, pursuant to management review and approval.
  • Cooperate and work with internal and external sources on the resolution of technical problems.
  • Good understanding and application of ASME codes and safety practices, related to the design of required equipment
  • Other duties as required

 

What You Need to Succeed

 

  • Proven track record of successfully completing complex designs related to scientific equipment that include:
  • Experience in setting up Isotope enrichment facilities and process engineering equipment
  • Experience and sizing and selection of design components and equipment
  • Experience in heating, cooling, evaporation, pneumatics, hydraulics, vacuum systems
  • Experience in structural analysis, design of mechanisms, interface of mechanical and electrical design
  • Experience in design of experiments, FMEA and proof of concept techniques, testing and creating test plans and reports
  • Good knowledge of FEA and ability to carry out calculations in support of design
  • Good knowledge of materials, welding and fabrication processes
  • Ability to implement above described experience and knowledge to develop industry leading mechanical designs solving the problems under different constraints and creating new technologies
  • Ability to carry out design activities while at the same time supporting production, and meeting demands of interfacing groups
  • Conducting design reviews and writing technical plans and reports
  • On time completion of detail and assembly drawings and BOMs in support of prototyping, procurement and production
  • A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering (or equivalent) is required
  • Experience in similar industries would be considered an asset
  • Candidates are expected to have or to pursue attainment of the P.Eng. designation
  • A period of 10+ years of relevant work experience is considered necessary
  • SolidWorks design experience and analysis is considered necessary, although proficiency in other design packages would be considered

  • Ability to work under pressure and be team player
  • Ability to effectively participate in a complex multi-disciplinary project
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize assigned work and to coordinate multiple activities efficiently
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain nuclear site security clearance

 

 

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
