Position: Technical Assistant

Location: 800 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, ON

Department: LAM – High Current and High Voltage Labs

Reports to: Service Line Manager HCL & HVL

Hours per week: 40 (overtime, field work and shift work may be required)

Starting Salary Range: $63,595 Exact compensation may vary depending on the individual experience and qualifications of each candidate.  Applicants with greater or less than the minimum qualifications for this posted opportunity may be considered for alternate opportunities.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

 

  • Assist Technologists with sample preparations, test set ups, and test dismantle.
  • Support the lab’s Kaizen initiative and laboratory organization.
  • Perform shipping, receiving, and incoming goods inspection.
  • Assist with periodic maintenance of laboratories and equipment.
  • Perform small repair jobs as required.
  • Move and transfer samples and equipment as required.
  • Adhere to Kinectrics quality assurance protocol. 
  • Provide housekeeping support such as facility cleaning, inventory control, restocking of lab supplies, and maintenance of safety equipment.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

What You Need to Succeed

 

  • Strong Mechanical and Electrical Aptitude
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent education/experience
  • Experience with electrical testing practices, procedures and safety standards; Operation of High Current Lab or similar plants is an asset.
  • Motor vehicle skill, holding a valid driver’s license that allows for operating motor vehicles independently.
  • Ability to move/lift/rearrange heavy items up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working on ladders.
  • Ability to clean up spills (e.g. oil) and understanding of basic environmental management practices.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, crouch, and kneel.
  • Experience operating hand tools.
  • Experience with industrial workplace organization and safety standards.
  • Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Basic computer skills. 
  • Self-motivated and strong time management skills.

 

This role may the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
