Position: Technical Assistant

Join our Line Asset Management team as a Technical Assistant. Provide technical support for the team as they perform a full range of mechanical testing services for electric utilities including the testing of new products and aged components, the testing of fibre optic cables, and specialized studies in areas such as wind induced conductor motion and ice loading.

General Duties:

•  Assist Technologists with sample preparations, test set ups, and test dismantle

•  Support the labs Kaizen initiative and laboratory organization

•  Perform shipping, receiving, and incoming goods inspection

•  Assist with periodic maintenance of laboratories and equipment

•  Perform small repair jobs as required

•  Move and transfer samples and equipment as required

•  Provide housekeeping support such as facility cleaning, inventory control, restocking of lab supplies, and maintenance of safety equipment

•  Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.

•  Adhere to Kinectrics quality assurance protocol

•  Perform clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and records systems

•  Perform other duties as required

Selection Criteria:

•  Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude

•  Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma or equivalent education/experience

•  Certified forklift operator with experience moving heavy equipment and loads

•  Motor vehicle skill, holding a valid driver’s license that allows for operating motor vehicles  independently

•  Knowledge of overhead line components is considered an asset.

•  Comfortable working on ladders or from elevated work platforms

•  Experience working in a lab environment under ISO 9001/17025 quality program

•  Physically fit (standing for extended period, crouching, kneeling etc.). Ability to move/lift/rearrange heavy items up to 50 lbs

•  Experience operating hand tools

•  Experience with industrial workplace organization and safety standards

•  Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events

•  Basic computer skills
