Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
Participate within a team of technologists in the Overhead Conductors Lab (Lines Asset Management Department) to provide technical support and testing services. Focus shall be in areas such as test development, test construction, test operation and technical analysis in relation to Overhead Transmission/Distribution Conductor testing. A good understanding of Overhead Conductors dynamics and mechanical testing is required.
- Perform mechanical and electrical type tests, R&D testing, investigations and technical studies for customers in one or more disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, non-destructive evaluation, and material science.
- Perform sample preparations (e.g., epoxy resin terminations, compression connector installation, etc.), test setup and execution tests.
- Provide mechanical and electrical expertise for testing projects, for example selection of appropriate test equipment, safe and efficient test set-up, identification of appropriate test standards and methods etc.
- Conduct installation and/or repair of equipment, instrumentation, and test fixtures.
- Take responsibility for care and maintenance of the test labs and related LAM facilities
- Adhere to Kinectrics’ ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 quality assurance and safety protocols.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.
- Perform clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems
- Perform other duties as required.
What You Need to Succeed
- Mechanical or Electrical Technician or Technologist diploma (or equivalent)
- Minimum 1-2 years of related test laboratory experience or equivalent advanced education
- Understanding of transmission line components and related tests is required.
- Experience testing and handling both traditional and HTLS conductors, including epoxy terminations, hardware installation is required. Experience handling and testing fiber optics is considered an asset.
- Experience using LabView and NI Instruments for data acquisition is required.
- Experience working under ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 quality programs is required.
- Requires knowledge of mechanical theory, electrical theory and testing standards to understand the requirements for testing of transmission components.
- Requires experience with mechanical and electrical practices, procedures, and safety standards. Experience working in R&D environment is considered an asset.
- Requires experience in solving problems where solutions require considerable investigation to resolve and often require integration of technical fields.
- Requires experience operating hand tools, drill press, saw, grinder, soldering tools, wire crimpers etc.
- Ability to utilize computer software programs for data management; experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Basic understanding of continuous improvement techniques; experience with workplace organization.
- Must have good mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot
- Experience maintaining and operating hydraulic equipment is considered an asset.
- Craning and rigging experience is an asset
- Forklift license and experience is an asset
- Additional industrial certificates or licenses considered an asset (e.g. millwright, licensed electrician, etc)
- Motor vehicle skill: holding a valid driver’s license that allows for operating motor vehicles independently;
- Physically fit: ability to move/lift/rearrange heavy items up to 50 lb; standing for extended period, crouching, kneeling etc.
- Comfortable working at heights
- Must be self-motivated, and have strong prioritizing and time management skills
