Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
- Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.
- Work independently without supervision and with minimum direction or in a team environment.
- Weld, fabricate and fit pressure vessels and piping parts with proper equipment while meeting compliancy with industry standard ASME and CSA codes, Company's Welding Procedure Specifications and Quality Control Manual.
- Handle, transport, and process products and materials safely using a forklift or crane.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings and produce rough sketches (abbreviations, symbols for welding/assembly, tolerances).
- Process raw materials working from blueprints, and specifications.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications, this includes:
- Cutting material with power saws to match measurements,
- Beveling pipe and plate, and
- Operating a manual plasma cutting machine.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
- Inspect raw materials and finished product to meet specifications.
- Monitor, record and report any discrepancies and issues with parts including but not limited to malfunctions or defects.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship with high-level quality and accuracy.
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
- Good housekeeping practices at all times, to help maintain safe work areas for yourself and your coworkers.
What You Need to Succeed
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with specialized training in welding to include extensive testing. Preference will be given to a Red Seal Welder or to a College Diploma in Welding.
- Minimum five-year experience of fit up and welding of pressure vessel or pressure pipe under strict QA program (e.g., ASME or TSSA certificate holder)
- Strong background related to fitting/welding skills on pressure pipe and pressure vessel fabrications requiring tight tolerances.
- Valid, or previously held, TSSA 6G or CWB all position certificate for TIG (GTAW) and MIG(GMAW) process or ability to obtain the certificates. The SMAW and SAW experience will be considered an asset.
- Strong ability to read and interpret manufacturing tolerances for accurate fabrication. Knowledge of preparing designs or drawings in CAD programs such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is considered an asset but not strictly required.
- Excellent knowledge of welding symbols.
- Minimum three years welding stainless using TIG (GTAW) (preferred) and/or MIG (GMAW) with stainless filler metals (e.g., ER308L/ER316L).”
- Experience with stainless prep and handling (dedicated stainless tools/brushes, contamination prevention, proper cleaning/passivation as required).
- Experience welding stainless tube/pipe and plate in positions required for the role (e.g., 1G/2G/3G/6G as applicable).
- Experience and knowledge of heat-treating processes. Able to interpret heat treatment requirements for PWHT of various welds.
- Good mathematical aptitude; convert decimals to fractional equivalents and fractions to decimal equivalents; strong ability to convert metric and imperial.
- High level of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Occasional travel to perform work off-site primarily at Power Generation sites may be required.
A welding test demonstration will be required of the incumbent and will be performed during the interview process.
This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
